This full day workshop for licensed/in training mental health counselors/clinicians will include a 3 hour presentation on Exposure and Response Prevention, a 90 minute presentation on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for OCD, a 1 hour Q&A panel with those who have lived experience of OCD treatment, and a 90 minute case example (OCD- creation of treatment plan using ERP and/or ACT) small groups activity. Each small group will have a specialist to support their discussion. Lunch will be allotted for 30 minutes to get food and settled in seat, but continue into the Q&A panel to allow more time for eating. Two 15 minute coffee/snack breaks will be provided (one AM/one PM).

Part 1:

Title: Treatment of Obsessive Compulsive DisorderLearning Objectives1. Summarize and define the etiology of OCD.

2. Describe both common and atypical clinical presentations of OCD.

3. List standard guidelines for the treatment of OCD.

4. Identify two common treatment myths and misconceptions of OCD

Title: Integrating Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Exposure Response Prevention Treatment

1. Summarize a basic understanding of the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy model (ACT).

2. Identify at least two strategies for integrating ACT in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) treatment.

Part 1: Treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

This interactive workshop will introduce evidence based concepts for treating obsessive compulsive disorder. The presentation is geared towards beginner to intermediate knowledge in treating OCD. Common and challenging presentations of OCD will be discussed. The presenter will discuss Exposure and Ritual Prevention Therapy (EXRP) for treatment of OCD and explore the different types of exposure used in therapy. Medication guidelines will be reviewed. Resources for treatment and community support will also be shared. Examples of cases and exposures will be provided to attendees. Attendees will have the opportunity to share cases and ask questions.

Presenter: Elizabeth Ellis Ohr, Psy.D.

Elizabeth A. Ellis Ohr, Psy.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist in Portsmouth, NH. Initially trained in psychodymanic approaches, she now specializes in cognitive behavioral techniques, specifically, evidence based treatment of anxiety disorders. Her specialty includes Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) for PTSD, Exposure and Response Prevention (EX/RP) for OCD, as well as cognitive-behavioral treatment for social anxiety, panic disorder, specific phobias, and generalized anxiety. She received her Psy.D. in clinical psychology from Immaculata University in 2009. Dr. Ohr completed post doctoral training at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Center for Management of ADHD and the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety (CTSA). She was clinical faculty at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety prior to moving to New Hampshire. Dr. Ohr is the President of the International OCD Foundation New Hampshire Affiliate. She is a Member-At-Large for the New Hampshire Psychological Association and serves on several of its committees.

Part 2

Presenter: Jeanette Nogales, LCMHC, M.Ed., C.A.G.S.

Jeanette Nogales received her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2005 and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (C.A.G.S) in Clinical Mental Health and Leadership in 2008. Jeanette is currently a senior therapist at Hanover Center for Cognitive Behavioral Therapies. Jeanette most recently served as the associate clinical director and program director at a residential treatment program specializing in empirically based treatments for anxiety and OCD-related disorders in adolescents and young adults. Prior to this position, she served as a graduate teaching faculty member at Plymouth State University, hospital-based clinician and crisis counselor at Lakes Region General Hospital, private practice clinician, and an adolescent and family therapist within a regional behavioral healthcare system. Jeanette has received extensive training in cognitive behavioral therapies (CBT) such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and exposure and response prevention (ERP) for the treatment of OCD, anxiety, and mood related disorders. She is a state approved supervisor for NH State clinical mental health counseling license candidates and has experience in supervision and consultation services. Jeanette enjoys training fellow clinicians in order to increase awareness and utilization of evidence-based treatments. Jeanette has presented on topics such as ACT and ERP for OCD, Bringing ACT Into the Classroom, and Bringing ACT Principles Into Your Milieu and Practice. She is an active member of the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF), the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS) and the Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT). She has complete the International OCD Foundation’s Behavior Therapy Training Institute (BTTI) training and the advanced BTTI training as well as attended trainings at the BECK Institute. Jeanette works collaboratively with each person to understand the barriers to living their most vital and meaningful life and then, together, facing and effectively navigating the challenges and pains that are an inevitable part of living fully.
